Hi everyone,
so in my first ever blog of this 'how to' series, I will share with you guys how I made this stand, shown in the picture below. You can use it to keep your makeup brushes or your stationery.
You'll need the following things-
1. Ice-cream sticks
2. Glue
3. Cutter
4. Paint
5. Paint Brushes
6. Some material for decoration (I used some basic shapes made from paper quilling)
Step 1-
Start sticking the ice-cream sticks together. I did 9 for the back, 2+2 for both sides, 2 for the base and 4+2 for the front (I had to add 2 more sticks after the stand was ready as the stand wasn't balancing well and things were falling from front). You can stick less or more sticks depending on how big or small you want your stand to be (just lay the sticks down and figure out the size before sticking them). I used the krafty glue from Camlin to stick them, it works really well. Hold the sticks together for 10-15 seconds so that they sticks well.
Step 2-
Next step is to stick everything together so that it takes the shape of a stand.
Stick the base (2 sticks) on the back (9 sticks).
Step 3-
Step 3 is to stick the sides. Now if your ice-cream sticks are round or curved you might have to cut them flat like shown in the picture below so that it fits well and flat to the base. Don't forget to place a folded newspaper below before cutting, or else you will end up spoiling the surface.
Step 4-
After cutting the curved ends stick the sticks to the back and the base.
Step 5-
After that stick the front.
Step 6-
Its now time to paint. I used the Camel fabrica acrylic paint (it can be used on any surface). Don't forget to keep a newspaper below the stand while painting or you will ruin the surface.
After all this I tried to keep some brushes and stationery in the stand, but it wasn't balancing well. So I stuck 2 more sticks to the front and painted it. This is what the end result looked like.
Step 7-
Time to decorate the stand now. I decorated the stand with shapes made from paper quilling. I started sticking the shapes randomly. No particular pattern or anything. Shall we call it abstract?
After sticking everything randomly this was the final result.
Use the stand to keep your makeup brushes or stationery.
Simple, isn't it? I hope you guys liked it and will try it out. Do send me pictures if you make a stand. Also share if you have any other ideas about making a pen/pencil stand, I would love to read it.
P.S.- I let the stand dry for 24 hours before painting it.
